Climbing the Mountain of Trust

Sun setting over mountains, symbolizing trust in God

Trust is rarely a single decision—it is a daily climb, step by faithful step, often through terrain we cannot fully see. This sonnet honors that sacred ascent, where each surrender brings us higher into the heart of God.

The Sonnet

The mountain rises high before my view,
Its summit veiled in clouds I cannot read,
Yet step by step I climb the pathway through,
And let the Father's hand fulfill my need.

I cannot see the bend that lies ahead,
Nor what awaits beyond this rocky ground,
But faith assures my heart need not be led
By fear of falling where no path is found.

Each labored breath becomes a quiet prayer,
Each weary step a song of trust profound,
I cast my anxious thoughts upon His care,
And in surrender, deeper peace is found.

So upward still I climb with steady tread,
For trust transforms the mountain into bread.

Reflection

Trust is not a feeling—it is a choice we make again and again, often in the dark, often on terrain we cannot understand. To trust God is to keep walking even when we cannot see the next step, believing that the One who called us up the mountain will not abandon us on its slopes.

The beautiful paradox of trust is this: it grows stronger through use. Every time we choose to trust God in small things, our capacity to trust Him in larger ones deepens. The mountain that once seemed impossible becomes the very place where we meet Him most intimately.

Wherever you are on your climb today, take the next step. You do not need to see the summit. You only need to trust the One who is walking with you. He has never lost a single soul who placed their hand in His.
